Level 3

Target Students: Level 3 of this curriculum is designed for students aged 6-9 who have either already completed Level 2 or have a comfortable ability to form sentences in English. A recommended placement test for Level 3 is to see if a student can easily complete each Level 2 unit's core communication activities.

This level is not recommended for beginners or near beginners, regardless of their age or how many vocabulary words they have memorized. The learning content is flexible enough to be as suitable for students who are 9 years old as it is for students who are 6 years old.

Vocabulary: This level moves beyond Level 1 & 2's focus on high-frequency vocabulary and expands into teaching medium and lower-frequency words that will allow learners to have highly-detailed conversations on specific topics, including musical preferences, international travel options, and human emotions. The goal of this level is to allow students' to learn to express their own opinions, interests, and feelings as uniquely as they are unique as individuals.

Communication: Students will learn to buy tickets for a variety of music, sporting, and other public events, arrange international travel bookings, describe medical symptoms to a medical professional, and discuss a wide array of food ingredients. Students ability to discuss schedules will expand into including months of the year.

Phonics & Reading: Phonics learning will expand to include more complex vowels such as the 'oi' and 'ow' sounds and focused practice with consonant blends like 'pl,' 'sm,' and 'fr.'

Students at this level will be able to read a variety of early readers with stories from many different topics. Each unit will include recommendations of books that the students are ready to read.

Summary

Pet Shop introduces students to a variety of common animals and related vocabulary. Students will be provided with the opportunity to practice the unit's vocabulary with a pet shop shopping role-play scenario. Students will learn to play the roles of 'customer' and 'salesperson.' Phonics skills development materials are included, as well as one additional vocabulary recall development card game.
