Grammar Maze Flashcards

This flashcard type offers the largest number of features, grammar teaching visuals, interactive compound word functionality, and more. Due to the size of this type of flashcard, each unit section has its own PDF downloads.

All Grammar Maze flashcards are double sided. After printing, the two sides will need to be glued back-to-back. For countable noun cards, for example, one side will show a vocabulary image of the singular form of the noun and the other side will show a plural image (see example cards below). Similarly, uncountable noun cards will show an image of the vocabulary word on one side and measure word examples on the other side.

Mini Flashcards

This is the smallest flashcard size with 8 cards per print page. Their layout is very similar to the Grammar Maze Cards. However, although these Mini Flashcards do include phonics beginning sound symbols and part-of-speech symbols, due to their small size, they do not feature maze pathways. Each PDF download is for an entire unit (and includes all three unit sections). Mini Flashcards are currently designed as single-sided only.

Vocabulary Type Descriptions

Core Vocabulary: The main vocabulary that each unit section is designed to teach students. Learning this words is a main learning goal of each unit. Teachers should be intentional about using the provided Core Vocabulary Cards to teach these words to their students.

Memory Words: Words included in the sentences structures used in the communication activities in the current unit. Flashcards are provided as an optional teaching aid, but printing and using them is certainly not expected or mandatory.

Compound / Combination: Words that combine two or more of the vocabulary words that the students have already learned. It is highly recommended that teachers print and use these cards, as the compound words and combination phrases are often quite different in meaning than the individual words that they are formed from. For example, hot dog does not share a significantly obvious meaning with the words hot and dog.

Supplemental: Occasionally, units will include flashcards for one or more additional words that provide helpful context, but that students do not need to learn. However, as teachers may find it useful to have a flashcard available for those words, an optional printable flashcard PDF is provided for those non-essential vocabulary words.

Review Vocabulary: These are words that have already been taught in a previous unit and are being reutilized in the current unit. Teachers could simply use the flashcards they printed when teaching the previous units. However, in case a teacher wishes to have an extra copy of all Review Vocabulary to include with the current unit materials, a PDF print file of all Review Vocabulary flashcards is provided for download and printing.
